Lynn Zimmerman and Mark Kohner were also recognized for their work as club secretary and treasurer, respectively.

Lion Tom Blaska also received Past President and Lion of the Year awards. Pictured above, he is already scheming about how to extract the locked contents of the Lion of the Year traveling trophy as President Nordin prepares glasses and ice.

Joan Blaska was the featured guest at our April 26 meeting. Actually, her dog Brewster received more attention than she did.
Brewster, a 3½ year old Golden Doodle, is a trained therapy dog. He and owner Joan make visits twice a month to Mercy Hospital. There they visit waiting rooms and patient rooms where Brewster gently allows people touch and love him, which raises spirits and helps patients feel good.
Affiliated with Therapy Dogs International, Brewster and other therapy dogs must have the proper temperament, enjoy interaction with people, and receive extensive obedience training.
Not to be confused with service dogs, therapy dogs make visits, bring happiness, and help patients relax, lower stress, and even reduce blood pressure. Thanks, Joan, for providing a very interesting program.

Lion Art Schlenker, on behalf of Anoka Lions Club, received an award for his years recycling event service.
It was presented by the City of Anoka Waste Reduction & Recycling Board "for continued commitment and enthusiastic service to Anoka's Spring & Fall Recycling Events".
Thanks and congratulations, Lion Art.

Jerri Loughry, Manager of the ACBC Emergency Food Shelf, was the featured speaker at our March 22 meeting.
ACBC exists to provide a helping hand to people in need, and the demand for their services has never been greater.
They operate with the help of two part-time employees and 150 volunteers. In 2010 they served over 9,000 families and 32,000 individuals. That is an increase of 13% over the previous year.
ACBC has a building expanson planned which will be a big help in providing a vital service to the community.

Our 51st consecutive annual pancake breakfast will be held on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011, 8:00am to 1:00pm.
We serve about 700 people each year as a way of saying "thanks" to the community.
The all-you-can-eat breakfast of homemade pancakes, eggs, sausage and beverage is very reasonable: just $6 for adults, $3 for children 3-12 and free for children under 3. Join us at the Anoka American Legion. map
Anoka Lioness will hold a bake sale. A Wellness Van will also be available for free screening for diabetes, eyes, blood pressure and cholesterol.
